5 Tips for Rainy Day Weddings
One of the biggest questions we get asked is “What happens if it rains?” Here are some tips to help prepare for wet weather.
1.) What to bring: It’s best to prepare just in case. Bring umbrellas you’d want to be photographed, a change of shoes (some of our favorite pics are of brides changing into cute boots on the farm), and something to keep warm in if the temperature drops. If possible bring extra umbrellas for guests that may have forgotten theirs.
2.) Plan for pics: Talk to your photographer about rainy-day photos. If possible, select a photographer with experience at wet events. Ask for examples of rainy-day pictures (including indoor shots) as you are making your photographer selection. A great photographer or videographer can take gorgeous photos in any situation.
3.) Embrace it: If it rains on your big day try your best to embrace it. There are some positives that can come from a good rain. It can bring down the high temperatures seen in South Carolina during the summer months. It can create unique and stunning wedding portraits. And it will most definitely create stories that you’ll remember from this extraordinary day to share for years to come.
4.) Rehearse with the venue: The weather may require the ceremony to be moved indoors. Practice this possibility at the rehearsal. Rain can be stressful. But practicing can help with the nerves of this possibility.
Here at the Historic Robertson Homestead, we have several backup options should there be wet weather. We can use the Tipsy Goat Barn to host both the ceremony and reception (don’t worry we’re pros at this and can have the space flipped in a flash). Alternatively, we can absolutely accommodate a tent should you choose to rent one for the day. Typically, we only need 72 hours to work with a rental company should the weather forecast change.
